Stop babysitting your backups

After a long shoot, the last thing you want is an evening of swapping cards and dragging folders. Kardo does the whole job in one go.

The old way to offload — card by card

4 cards ≈ 24 steps

  1. Insert the card
  2. Make a folder and name it
  3. Drag the files across
  4. Wait, and keep checking
  5. Hope nothing was missed
  6. Eject, then start again with the next card

Repeat for card 2, card 3, card 4…

The Kardo way — all cards at once

4 cards = 3 steps

  1. Insert all your cards
  2. Type a name for the shoot
  3. Click Backup All

Then walk away. Every card is copied, every file is checked, and the cards eject themselves when it's done.

Want it even quicker? Turn on auto-backup and Kardo starts the moment a card goes in.

Less time copying, more time editing

Every part of Kardo is designed to take the waiting and checking off your hands.

All your cards, one click

Insert every card from the shoot and back them all up in one go. Each gets its own folder, so nothing gets mixed up.

Starts the moment a card goes in

Cards appear instantly with how much will be copied. Turn on auto-backup and Kardo starts without you clicking anything.

No need to double-check

Kardo re-reads every copied file and checks it matches the card exactly — so you don't have to spend time checking it yourself.

Name each backup PRO

Type "Wedding – Sarah & Tom" once and every card lands in that folder. No more making folders by hand.

Just the files you want

Copy everything, or only photos, RAW files or videos — less to copy means less waiting.

Folder sync PRO

Keep two folders or drives matching, with a preview of every change before anything happens.

Built so you never lose a shoot

The things that go wrong when you drag files around in Finder — Kardo handles them for you.

Reformatted cards

Same file names? Both shoots kept.

When you format a card in-camera, numbering starts again at IMG_0001. Kardo spots a different photo with the same name and keeps both — it never overwrites earlier work.

Pulled out too early

No half-copied files.

If a card is removed or a cable slips mid-copy, Kardo tells you clearly and never leaves a broken file that looks like a real photo. Run it again and it carries on where it stopped.

Original dates

Photos keep the date they were shot.

Backups sort properly in Finder and your editing apps, instead of every file showing the day you copied it.

Running it twice

Already backed up? Skipped.

Kardo recognises files it has already copied, so a second run is quick and never makes duplicates.

Three steps. That's the whole backup.

Insert all your cards

Kardo finds every one and shows how much will be copied from each.

Choose where to save

Pick your backup drive once — Kardo remembers it.

Click Backup All

Go and grab a coffee. Every card is copied and checked, and ejects itself when it's done.

Questions

Which Macs does Kardo work on?

Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 11 Big Sur or later. It works with any card reader — built-in or USB.

How do I install it?
  1. Download Kardo and open the file.
  2. Drag Kardo into your Applications folder.
  3. Open Kardo from Applications.

If your Mac says it can't check Kardo for malicious software, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. You only need to do this once.

Does Kardo upload my photos anywhere?

No. Kardo works entirely on your Mac and copies straight from your card to the drive you choose. Your photos and videos never leave your Mac.

What does "verified" mean?

After each file is copied, Kardo reads the saved copy back and checks it's identical to the file on your card. If anything doesn't match, it tries again, and tells you if there's still a problem — so you know before you format your card.

Which cameras and file types are supported?

Any camera that saves to a memory card. Kardo copies everything on the card, and you can choose to copy only photos (JPEG, HEIC), RAW files (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, DNG and more) or videos (MP4, MOV, MXF and more).

Is Pro a subscription?

No. Pro is a one-time purchase for one Mac. If you get a new Mac, you can move your licence to it.

Something's not working — how do I get help?

In Kardo, click Report a problem at the bottom of the window. It opens an email with the details we need to help you quickly.
